swollen eyes & kid rage: how I used herbs this week

Hey Reader,

I thought I’d share a few real-life examples or use cases of how I used herbs and essential oils throughout my week.

When you’re starting out, you don’t know what you don’t know, and my mission is to open up possibilities for using herbs and oils to confidently take care of yourself and your family.

It’s actually one of my favorite parts of my job; teaching and showing people how applicable using herbs and oils can be.

Seriously, sometimes it feels like I’m making magic 🪄 There are so many situations that herbs and oils can help with, and the only limiting factor is your knowledge, imagination, and what herbs/oils you have on hand.

And while I wish that herbs and oils could solve ALL your problems, isn't it at least nice that they can help and support you along the way?

So, let’s dive into my week in herbs/oils, Reader!

  • Monday brought a post-Easter candy-pocalypse, which resulted in a raging six-year-old who vacillated between anger and tears. We needed a pattern interrupt to reset the day after a solid episode of crying. One of my favorite pattern interrupts, is to take a calming aromatherapy bath. In this case, I made a quick batch of lavender bath salts, which helped her relax. (I’ll be posting my bath salt recipe soon but in the meantime, see my post about how to make a relaxing bath tea!)

  • Saturday brought a swollen under eye for my 13-year-old. She thought she might have eaten something she was sensitive to and was possibly reacting to that. We used a soothing eye compress with rose, lavender, nettles, and echinacea to hit some possible causes (infection, inflammation, and allergies). She saw a marked improvement after a few compresses. (see my new post about remedies for swollen eyes particularly as we move into allergy season)

  • Sunday brought a gnarly sore on my dog’s leg from roughhousing with her sister. I used a bentonite clay poultice to help draw out any infection and reduce swelling and inflammation. Clay poultices are one of my favorite home remedies for bruises, splinters, and minor skin wounds (I’ll be blogging about how I use clay poultices soon!)

  • Wednesday brought a pain-relieving essential oil blend for topical application to my husband’s knee after an intense physical therapy session. He tore his ACL a few weeks ago, and we are working on decreasing the inflammation, swelling, and pain before he can have surgery. I used ginger, arnica CO2, and German Chamomile essential oils in his pain relief blend.

These are some examples of how herbs and oils can be used in everyday life. And these remedies have one thing in common: they are simple, effective, and practical. Yay for keeping it simple, sista!

Learning how to use herbs and essential oils can open up a whole new world and give you easy and effective ways to take care of yourself and your family!

Hey Reader! As essential oils become increasingly popular and people turn to natural remedies and alternatives to conventional medicine, the #1 question I get asked from my clients and my community is how to find the best essential oil brands. So, what are some green lights (and potential red flags) for essential oil brands? And what are some reputable brands? 🟢Green Lights🟢: Transparent marketing, even if they include terms like “certified therapeutic grade” or “100% Pure” they state on...

hey Reader! It took me years to realize that my physical space deeply impacted my mood and overall well-being. And as an introvert and homebody, I love being at home. But I didn't realize that when I was at home, I felt like something wasn't right. There was too much clutter, it didn't flow functionally, and it didn't feel like a sanctuary. Not only that, but I never felt like having people over because I was embarrassed by how small it was, how much clutter we had, and that it didn't have a...

Hey Reader! I'm on vacation this week, enjoying the dry heat of eastern Washington, lazy days paddle boarding, and drinking Okanogan wine. It's been fun to get away from my regular routine and embrace (mostly) true relaxation. It's been easier to relax knowing that I prepared a natural travel first aid kit to help keep my family healthy. I thought I'd give you a sneak peek at what's inside my travel first aid kit (and I'll be writing a more in-depth post on my blog in the coming weeks as...
