how to use herbs as time allies

Hey Reader

I used to think that doing two things at a time was better than doing one thing at a time. Or, even better, doing three things at a time.

Like if I could do the elliptical, while listening to an herb podcast, while watching my kid play in the cul-de-sac, that was the pinnacle of success.

The sad truth though, is that doing more things at once made me lose focus and do none of them well.

Like when my daughter fell on her roller blades while I was on the elliptical and I forgot I was plugged in listening to a podcast on my phone and got tangled up in the cord as I was trying to jump off.

Yeah, not my most athletic move.

And, while I’m all about working smarter not harder, I’m NOT about crazy multitasking where your mind bounces between a million different things and you end up less focused and more stressed than before.

So, instead of trying to do more things at once, I started asking myself what could be done to improve focus, increase capacity, and help me complete my tasks more quickly/efficiently.

And it’s probably no surprise that I turned to herbs and essential oils and discovered that they are amazing time tools that can help you go beyond the surface and find real, long-lasting solutions to be more efficient, productive, and relaxed.

Herbs (like green tea, rosemary, and peppermint) and essential oils (like spearmint, peppermint, sweet orange, and lemon) help increase your focus, have a slightly stimulating effect, and can help you feel more energized as you tackle your to-dos.

Herbs like eleuthero, holy basil and licorice have an adaptogenic effect to help you increase your energy and capacity at a macro level so you feel more equipped to handle the ups and downs of life. By building your capacity and resiliency you can say more yes to aligned opportunities!

Herbs like milky oats, lemon balm, chamomile, and skullcap are relaxing nervines that support the nervous system to help you relax and truly take breaks (which are absolutely essential parts of time management.)

But my favorite way to use herbs to help with time management is to engage in a weekly intention practice paired with a cup of tea.

Doing a weekly intention practice lets you plan your week and think of everything you want (and need) to do. It’s a time for brainstorming, deleting, delegating, and planning. Pairing it with a cup of tea makes the practice feel special and brings some elements of self-care into the routine.

My current favorite tea is a blend of nettle leaf, astragalus, goldenrod, spearmint, and eleuthero which is a perfect blend of adaptogens, stimulants, and is really helping with my allergies too! Unlike me, herbs are fantastic multi-taskers!

Spending 30-60 minutes doing a weekly intention practice has been revolutionary for my time management.

If you’re curious about what goes into a weekly intention practice, I highly encourage you to check out my friend, Becca Rich, the Holistic Time Coach where she shares her weekly intention ritual for free.

Inside the weekly intention ritual you’ll make a to-do list that’s doable and excites you - prioritized by what’s most important.

Imagine, Reader, you’re focused, clear, and by pairing your weekly intention practice with herbs, you feel energized and relaxed as you jump into your week.

Sounds amazing to me.

Hit reply and let me know if you try the weekly intention ritual, how it went, and what tea you paired with it!

With love and Chamomile,

Hey Reader! As essential oils become increasingly popular and people turn to natural remedies and alternatives to conventional medicine, the #1 question I get asked from my clients and my community is how to find the best essential oil brands. So, what are some green lights (and potential red flags) for essential oil brands? And what are some reputable brands? 🟢Green Lights🟢: Transparent marketing, even if they include terms like “certified therapeutic grade” or “100% Pure” they state on...

hey Reader! It took me years to realize that my physical space deeply impacted my mood and overall well-being. And as an introvert and homebody, I love being at home. But I didn't realize that when I was at home, I felt like something wasn't right. There was too much clutter, it didn't flow functionally, and it didn't feel like a sanctuary. Not only that, but I never felt like having people over because I was embarrassed by how small it was, how much clutter we had, and that it didn't have a...

Hey Reader! I'm on vacation this week, enjoying the dry heat of eastern Washington, lazy days paddle boarding, and drinking Okanogan wine. It's been fun to get away from my regular routine and embrace (mostly) true relaxation. It's been easier to relax knowing that I prepared a natural travel first aid kit to help keep my family healthy. I thought I'd give you a sneak peek at what's inside my travel first aid kit (and I'll be writing a more in-depth post on my blog in the coming weeks as...
